Nextgreen’s R&D and Production departments at NGPP-UiTM Transfer of Technology Workshop on 25th – 28th July 2022 at Biorefinery Complex, UPM. The four days’ workshop was held as part of the NGPP-MOSTI-UPM collaboration project entitled “Sustainable Food Packaging Material from Oil Palm Empty Fruit Bunch (EFB) Cellulosic Fibre Extracted Using Hybrid Chemical-Mechanical-Thermal Process”. In this session, UPM researchers shared knowledge with Nexgreen’s R&D and Quality Control executives on the potential applications of empty fruit bunches (EFB) from oil palm, turning them into profitable biodegradable packaging, while reducing Malaysia’s carbon footprint from wastage. The theoretical and hands-on sessions on the production of nanocellulose from EFB pulp and the process optimization to produce paper incorporated with nanocellulose benefit the team for a better understanding of the whole biomass conversion to pulp and subsequently to nanomaterials for them to be utilized in producing biodegradable moulded food packaging.
